A Remarkable Fight To Uncover The Truth

How the investigation into Tiffany's death began.

The Meetings

March 12, 2022

IT WAS a Saturday when Marie McGovern first sat down with Tiffany's parents Stephen and Dianne. It had been years since Tiffany's body was struck by a train on an isolated stretch of railroad tracks, but the pain was still raw. Not only were Stephen and Dianne still grieving the loss of their  daughter, but were angry and frustrated at authorities, who, they say, had never fully investigated the background of Tiffany's death.

The more Marie listened, the more determined she became to help. She thought it might make a story. But it soon became far more than that.

The Investigation

IN MARCH 2022, Marie  was also introduced to their attorney, Paul D'Amato. South Jersey's most prominent personal injury attorney had been working on the case since Tiffany died, as convinced as Stephen and Dianne that their daughter had not taken her own life. He allowed Marie access to his entire case files. Marie became deeply involved in his investigation, which he hoped would change the determination of Tiffany's death from suicide. Together, they began to explore different avenues never explored by police in July 2015.

Tiffany's State of Mind

ONE of the most puzzling aspects of the original investigation into Tiffany's death in 2015, was the lack of interest in her state of mind. There were so many obvious questions never asked of her parents, sisters and others close to her.

As you'll learn, this was a young woman with an exciting future. She'd be playing NCAA Division Two volleyball at university, a sport she'd grown to love, displaying a prestigious talent at high school and on local travel teams. And she'd be studying criminal justice, hoping to follow in the footsteps of an uncle who was a state trooper, or perhaps enter the military.

Police barely scratched the surface of Tiffany's personal life. But this series presents the first in-depth character profile and examination of her world.

The Last Picture: July 12, 2015

THE image is black-and-white, grainy, but haunting. Caught on a surveillance camera in the driveway, it shows Tiffany, dressed for her cousin's graduation party, striding away from her home shortly before 9.30PM on the night of July 12, 2015. In her hand, she's carrying her cell phone - a phone that would later be found in the nearby brush.  Surveillance photographs and the information from the phone would become key in exploring what happened to Tiffany that fateful night.

Chapter 1: Into the Night

For Tiffany Valiante the summer of 2015 was about enjoying the beach, the pool and parties before she left for college. But after a family gathering, she was found dead on railroad tracks. Marie retraces her steps that last night and uncovers new, deeply troubling questions.
